Despite seemingly easy, reading actually is a complex activity for the brain involving various processes. Here, we are not talking about scanning headlines and/or reading short texts on Facebook, Twitter, or the like. We are talking about "serious reading" like novels and this kind of reading requires patience, diligence, and determination until it becomes a habit, contributing to the development of our cognitive capacity and life skills. The more we read the more we become creative, innovative, experienced and understanding, and happy with what we have in life. It is absolutely true that reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body as Joseph Addison suggests. The bottom line and the take-home message is "get lost in a book as soon as possible and experience the experiences of others and make theirs yours for your personal and mental growth.
